Clean Up After Your Dog Signs – A Friendly Reminder

August 20, 2013 by Belle's Mom

Clean up after your dog signNobody likes stepping in dog poop – even a dog owner. It’s really unpleasant. Most towns have an ordinance that requires you to pick up after your pooch, but sometimes people need a reminder.

My small town has a lot of dogs, especially my neighborhood. It was only 3 years ago that the first ordinance requiring you to pick up after your dog was passed. Like all changes, it takes people a while to get used to new things.

My yard was a frequent spot used by the neighborhood dogs. I had several pairs of shoes out of commission as a result. Finally, I decided to try and find a sign to help remind people of what they should do.

I searched online and found these small, sturdy, aluminum signs on Amazon.com. They were easy to put together and have lasted two years so far. They’re only about 6 inches by 4 inches and the stake raises them to about 1.5 feet tall.

Just the act of putting these “Please clean up after your dog” signs along the perimeter of the yard has reduced the amount of people not cleaning up after their dogs. While it doesn’t mean everyone picks up, it definitely helps. Sometimes, all people need is a friendly reminder.

Picking up after your dog is part of responsible dog ownership. I get embarrassed when I see dog poop when walking my dog in case people think that I haven’t cleaned up. Thanks for the reminder.
